i was about to joke about how my political stance is “end lawnmower culture” but then it occurred to me that i actually Am against lawns as suburban status symbols and wastes of land that Could be used to sustain native flora & fauna and grow food for people, but no, instead they are these huge useless swaths of land that need Constant maintenance, the process of which is not only destructive, but Incredibly Loud

turtletot43

You know that actually is the purpose of a lawn? They started as a trend of the French monarchy - the ones revolutionaries beheaded for being self indulgent assholes.

It exists purely as a status symbol that says, “I have land but I don’t have to use it for anything productive. I can invest time, money and resources in maintaining an entirely useless crop on land I’m not farming just because it looks pretty.”

Lawns offend me.

bigwordsandsharpedges

Why have that stunted golf course in front of your suburban house if you can’t even water it? Get one of these instead.

Unite Against the Lawn

vikingofficial

Pro tiny house, anti grass lawn. Prioritize practicality.

whitefriartuck

This is actually really interesting because back in the 1950s and 60s in Australia when we started getting large waves of Southern European migrants one thing the Italians and others would often so is buy a little suburban home, then tear out the ornamental flower beds and lawn and useless trees and plant fruits, vegetables, grapes and even olives. It was considered completely scandalous by their Anglo-Saxon neighbours because lawn was considered an aspirational thing and the ideal was to go from not needing a kitchen garden and having an ornamental garden to show how well you were doing.

casualllyweeping

This is great. All of it.
Not to derail this too much, but “Lawnmower” culture also reminds me of aggressively heterosexual men. Men ALWAYS will use mowing the lawn as a way to get out of doing all the other household chores – having a lawn that a man mows somehow makes maintaining everything else inside a house the women’s responsibility.
Down with lawnmower culture.

thegala-apple

i’ve actually read a whole book on lawns and lawn culture (yes, really) it’s called lawn people by paul robbins check it out and let’s all boycott lawn culture together!!!

chickahdee

It does make me wonder if there’s any laws in place for front lawns though because I feel like there is?

thewinterotter

This is all fascinating. And yes there are totally laws, local rules, HOA rules and other things that MANDATE that people have lawns. Yards like some of the ones pictured above with the raised beds and actual garden can earn you a ticket, ongoing bother from code enforcement officials, and a general massive pain in the ass. These are usually very local rules on a city or county level, and they’re absolutely something we should work to change in local government. And it’s something you should be aware of if you’re looking to buy a home.

Anonymous asked:

really nasty of you as a cis woman to reblog a post slandering a gender critical trans boy. the fact that you can call trans people "TERF"-y just because their self perception and gender politics aren't the same as yours is nonsensical. very disappointed to see you reblogging that uncritically.

answered:

Okay so you honestly believe a straight trans boy can call himself a lesbian? Even though, he isn’t a girl in anyway? Really? I’d understand if they were heavily closeted and said that as a cover, but still as an actual title, it’s not for trans men. They are men and men can’t be lesbians.

forest-dreemurr

I mean the transmisogynist stuff he said was shitty but trans people arent terfs and its really transphobic to call them that. Plus you just admitted you get it for closeted trans men. Most trans men do it out of safety or bc they spent their whole lives calling themselves lesbians until realizing they were male and the other lesbians in their lives are supportive and comfortable with them continuing to use the title because they are continuing to be a part of the community. Forcing people to stop all connection to a community they identified with for years because their concept of gender changed is transphobic and generally pretty shitty

witchybeauty

Wait. It’s officially transphobic to say that trans men can’t be lesbians? It’s transphobic to say that trans men who are attracted to only girls aren’t the same as girls ( cis, trans, nonbinary, etc) who are attracted to only girls? Also, I never called them Terfs, i reblogged the fucking post.

sapphic-sisters

Hey trans girls, do you mind helping me out on this post? I’m in a world of confusion. - mod Safia.

Okay, I don’t identify as lesbian any more, and I haven’t seen what this person said, so I can only speak in general terms here.

It’s not my place to say that a trans boy can’t be a lesbian. It… seems pretty nonsense to me, but that’s a discussion for lesbians to have.

I will say, however, that it’s incredibly red-flaggy.

Every single time I’ve seen it happen, it’s been so that they can side with and get support from TWERFs. This is actually most of the reason I use TWERF instead of TERF; a lot of them are willing to give a pass to trans men who let themselves be misgendered like this.

I’ve also seen it turn incredibly predatory more than once; trans men who identify as lesbians get access to lesbian spaces, and some use this to push boundaries and creep in ways that would be completely and totally unacceptable if they came from a cis man. Or, y'know, a trans woman.

So… not gonna say it’s impossible, but it’s a pretty good sign that they support TWERF ideology and transmisogyny, and are creepy. I’d stay way the hell away from him on that basis alone. And I’d sure as hell say it’s not transphobic to argue that it’s impossible, because… well, how can it be transphobic to reaffirm a trans person’s stated gender?

discourseoutforharambe

i’ve literally met a self-proclaimed Terf who was also a trans man. so it’s not impossible for trans people to be TERFS.

also lets not forget that they specifically target trans women and amab nonbinary people

NYU students who back Trump afraid to show their faces

“They’re afraid of losing friends, being ridiculed in class, getting worse grades and are even afraid of being assaulted and physically hurt.”

railroadsoftware

good

punkslostintherain

no, not good. because if we hate them as much as Trump and his supporters hate certain groups, we are no better than they are.

“if you hate these bigots you’re just as bigoted as they are”

bogleech

This “we’re no better than them” mentality makes the critical mistake that hate itself is the problem.

Hate is not the problem. At all. Hate can be constructive. Hate can be defensive and come from righteous outrage.

The problem is irrational hate towards innocent people.

Hating a racist is COMPLETELY fucking different from hating a race. A whole race didn’t do anything wrong. A racist did. Hating the racist is 100% proportionate, justifiable retaliation.

the-punk-prophet

Fucking. Mic. Drop.

rainnecassidy

The reason that hate groups like the Klan have been driven so near to extinction is because of this exact thing. It became unfashionable to be publicly racist, and the backlash against those kinds of groups became unbearable for them. It drove them out of the limelight and into the very fringes of society.

This postmodern “hating the hate makes you just as bad” bullshit is what’s allowing them to re-prosper.

Fuck that.

Expose them. Make them lose their friends. Ridicule them in classes. If you can get away with it, beat their asses. Show them what it means that we will not go back to that way of life again. It’s time for the racists to be the ones who live in fear.

i-eat-men-like-air

Hating bigotry does not a bigot make.
